Dr Stefania Di Stefano is a postdoctoral researcher at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (Cnam) in Paris, where she works on a research project focusing on the regulation of online content moderation.
Her academic work focuses on the governance of digital technologies, particularly the regulation of human rights and freedom of expression in the online sphere. Her current research looks on the implementation of the EU Digital Services Act and its effectiveness in protecting fundamental rights. In her doctoral research, she examined the role of international human rights law in regulating the exercise of freedom of expression on social media platforms.
During her doctoral studies, Stefania was Project Officer for the Geneva Human Rights Platform, and she has also served as a Consultant for the Mandate of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression. Since 2022, Stefania has been a Co-convenor of the European Society of International Law’s Interest Group on International Law and Technology.
She holds a PhD in International Law (2025) and master's degree in International Law from the Geneva Graduate Institute (2018) and an LLB (Hons) in Law and European Legal Studies from the University of Southampton (2016). In 2019, she was awarded the Diploma in Human Rights Law by the European University Institute.
